NHL Playoff Observations -- Round Three Begins

Just a few things that caught my eye:

  • I'm not sure I've seen Sidney Crosby as angry as he was at the end of the second period. He let Tuukka Rask get under his skin and then popped Rask in the chest (twice). And he chirped Zdeno Chara who had his number all night long (hint: he's too big for you Sid). He let them get him off his game.
  • Why is Corey Crawford the least-desirable goalie in the conference semis? That goal Saturday was a fluke. And he's allowed just a single goal in three of his last four games.
  • Back to Sid the Kid. What was that drive-by elbow on Brad Marchand's head late in the third? You were sidelined for a long, long time by a similar hit, so why the freak would you pull that crap? C'mon.
  • Where-o-where have Dustin Brown and Anze Kopitar's scoring gone? Compare and contrast their offensive dominance last season to this season's sputter. They need to step up. The Kings cannot rely on Jonathan Quick alone.
  • Speaking of Quick -- he was flat out brilliant in the first. I think the shots were 17-2 in favor of the Hawks. Is he the best goalie in the world right now?
  • Back to the Kings' lack of scoring. They have lost their last four road games by 2-1 scores. And five of the six road games they've played this postseason. The Hawks have home-ice advantage. Bu-bye, Kings?
  • Tomas Vokoun was brilliant on that two-on-none break with Patrice Bergeron bearing down on him. Bergeron's move beat him and Vokoun knew it. And instead of trying to stop the puck, he did the only thing he could -- hit Bergeron's stick with his own. It worked to perfection. Smart veteran move.
  • Can anyone tell me what constitutes interference? I'm pretty Kris Letang doesn't know, either. What the heck happened to the refs' whistles on that two-on-none?
  • The Pens didn't lose because of Tomas Vokoun, but he may have lost the starter's gig because of them. Can Marc Andre Fleury pull his crap together and actually help them?
