Stanley Cup Game 1: Don't Poke the Bear

  • The Bruins came out rusty until Sean Kuraly and the fourth line stopped the bleeding. The fourth-line was the best on the ice.
  • The Bruins were a handful for the first three rounds. But everyone said they'd be water bugs compared to the big, heavy Blues. It sure didn't look that way. The Blues had almost no O-zone time and their cycle game didn't exist. #DontPokeTheBear

  • Blind back passes are bad, especially when they're straight to Brayden Schenn. I'm talking to you, David Pastrnak. At least you tapped Tuukka Rask's pads and took responsibility. It won't happen again.
  • Vladimir Tarasenko will never go and get the puck. But he sure knows what to do with it when it's on his stick.
  • Human reflexes make it way easier for a 'tender to snap his glove up than push it down. So, just above the pad and below the glove is pretty much kryptonite to any goalie. And Charlie McAvoy knew it.
  • The Blues somehow survived a three-shot second period. And a near-13 minute gap between shots that extended well into the third. The Blues owe Jordan Binnington. He did his job.
  • You need to have your head on a swivel when Ivan Barbashev is on the ice. He's only 187 pounds, but he hits like a middle linebacker.
  • 17,914. That's the number of days since the Blues last played in a Cup Final. Sometimes the trivia broadcasters throw out is a combo of silly and stupid.
  • Marcus Johansson is sure putting together a nice highlight package for free agency. He could get an extra half-mil per season if he keeps this up.
  • CBC's Don Cherry has been out of touch for a long time. Monday night, he talked about the recent world championships. The quote? "Russia -- losing with all those Europeans." Not sure where he learned geography, but maybe the maps were different back in his day.
