NHL Playoff Observations: Game 1, Round Two

Just a few things that caught my eye:

  • Chirping. Trash talk. Alexander Ovechkin has it going on, regardless of what you call it. "All series long, baby. All series long."
  • It ain't over 'til it's over. The Rangers won't let their guard down like that again. 1.2 seconds. Ouch.

  • Hard up the boards. It's a simple concept, but one that the Flames just didn't seem to understand that on the first goal. Or the other simple concept -- get between your opponent and your net. Not in front of your opponent. #WideOpenInTheCrease.
  • Nicklas Backstrom had the best hit of the series. I know, I know -- that's hard to believe. But the Caps might just surprise if Barry Trotz continues to get that level of engagement.
  • Losing Mats Zuccarello is a huge blow for the Rangers. Huge. Whether they'd admit it or not, the Norwegian Hobbit is their best 200' player. Funny how the little guys stir the drink for the Rangers, Bolts, Flames ...
  • Is there any answer to Ryan Getzlaf, Corey Perry and Ryan Kesler? Or is that a rhetorical question? Damn.
  • Clutch. That's Joel Ward. Discuss.
