Engaged in two-way quarterback battle
April 16, 2025
Calzada is in an open competition for Kentucky's starting job under center with Cutter Boley, Tim Letcher of UK Athletics reports.
ANALYSIS
Calzada appears to be the favorite to lead the team under center mostly due to his previous starting experience. The 6-foot-4 graduate transfer completed 535-of-811 passes across his last two years with Incarnate Word, racking up 6,389 yards 54 touchdowns and 18 interceptions across 22 games. Calzada will look to continue his fight to lead the Wildcats under center this coming fall.

2022 Fantasy Outlook
Calzada threw for 2,185 yards and 17 touchdowns last season, spending the majority of the campaign as the starter at Texas A&M. He had offseason surgery on his non-throwing shoulder, though is expected to be healed in time for fall camp. Calzada will contend with TJ Finley, who started the final three games last season for the Tigers, including the Birmingham Bowl. Finley completed just 54.7-percent of his passes in 2021, while Calzada was not much better, coming in at 56.1-percent while with the Aggies. Oregon transfer Robby Ashford will also end up in the mix, as well as Holden Geriner. Calzada has the experience and perhaps the competitive edge of the quartet, though he may not be the most physically talented quarterback in the group.
