Pakistan vs. Sri Lanka: Third ODI Preview

Match Details:

Series/tournament name: Pakistan vs Sri Lanka

Venue: National Stadium, Karachi

Date: October 2, 2019

Time: 3:30 p.m. IST

Match Preview:

Pakistan will host Sri Lanka in the third and final ODI of the series at the National Stadium in Karachi on Wednesday. The hosts have a 1-0 lead going into the final match after they won the previous game by a healthy margin of 67 runs and the first game yielded no result at all as it was completely washed out by rain. They seemed balanced in both departments and didn't have any hiccups whatsoever. Sri Lanka, on the other hand, looked clueless with the ball and absolutely horrendous with the bat. If it wasn't for the valiant batting efforts of Shehan Jayasuriya, Dasun Shanaka and Wanidu Hasaranga, the visitors would have folded for a total of less than hundred. So they would be eager to bounce back strongly in this match but it isn't going to be easy against a force like Pakistan at their den.

Weather Conditions:

The weather forecast predicts clear and sunny skies in the morning which could turn into partially cloudy in the evening. No rain has been predicted and, thus, a full game is on the cards.

Pitch Conditions: The track had something for the spinners and the bowlers with good variations in the previous match. But, as Pakistan showed, it was possible to score runs there if the batsmen applied themselves. So a score in the range of 275-300

Weather Conditions:

Pitch Conditions: The track had something for the spinners and the bowlers with good variations in the previous match. But, as Pakistan showed, it was possible to score runs there if the batsmen applied themselves. So a score in the range of 275-300 can be expected once again in the first inning. Batting might get a bit more difficult in the second innings, so it is advisable to bat first after winning the toss.

Probable Playing XIs:

Pakistan:

Fakhar Zaman, Imam Ul-Haq, Babar Azam, Haris Sohail, Iftikhar Ahmed, Sarfraz Ahmed, Imad Wasim, Shadab Khan, Wahab Riaz, Mohammad Amir, Usman Shinwari

Sri Lanka:

Avishka Fernando, Oshada Fernando, Lahiru Thirimanne, Sadeera Samarawickrama, Danushka Gunathilaka, Shehan Jayasuriya, Dasun Shanaka, Isuru Udana, Wanidu Hasaranga, Nuwan Pradeep, Lahiru Kumara

Top Picks:

Batsman: Babar Azam (11 Cr)

The Pakistani batsman scored his 11th ODI century in the previous match. It was also his third against Sri Lanka and he averages over 60 in ODIs against the Islanders at present.

Bowler: Usman Shinwari (8.5 Cr)

The left-arm seamer registered the second five-wicket haul of his ODI career in the previous match. Incidentally, both of them have come against Sri Lanka. Shinwari now has 11 wickets in just three matches against the islanders at an average of 11.28 and a strike-rate of 12.8.

Bowler: Dasun Shanaka (8.5 Cr)

The Sri Lankan all-rounder bowled a tidy spell of 10-1-48-0 in the previous match and also took Sri Lanka out of trouble by scoring 96 runs off 109 deliveries. It looks like he will bowl his full quota of overs in this match once again and batting at No. 6 gives him ample opportunity to score big runs as well.

Captaincy Options (in order of priority): Babar Azam, Dasun Shanaka
