May request trade after draft
Cousins may wait until after the NFL Draft to request a trade and/or waive his no-trade clause, according to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo.
ANALYSIS
The idea would be to see which teams use an early pick on a quarterback before finding a new home for 2025. Cousins, of course, signed a four-year contract with the Falcons last offseason, only to see them take Michael Penix with the eighth overall pick. Cousins mostly struggled in his first year back from an Achilles' tear, and Penix eventually took over the starting job for the final three weeks. It may help Cousins to be another year removed from his injury, but he'll also be in his age-37 season, likely nearing the end of the line. It's unclear if he'd generate serious trade interest as a potential starter.

Cousins was on pace for close to 5,000 yards and 40 TDs last year when he snapped his Achilles tendon in October. As it was, he finished QB24 in fantasy, despite playing only eight games. That’s what hefty volume will do for you -- when he went down in Week 8, he was the league leader in attempts (311). For the second year in a row, his average target depth dropped -- to 7.3, 24th in the league -- which boosted his on-target rate to a career-high 80.4 percent (2nd) and his completion rate to 69.5 percent (3rd). Cousins eschewed the deep ball (6.4 percent of attempts, 31st) for intermediate targets (26.0 percent, 3rd). That’ll probably be the formula again this season for the 36-year-old, especially because he never had elite arm strength in the first place. Whether he gets 600 attempts is the question after he signed with Atlanta in March for $100 million guaranteed. First, he’s still working back from the injury; second, new offensive coordinator Zac Robinson, after five years as a Rams assistant, is somewhat of an unknown; and third, the Falcons surprisingly drafted QB Michael Penix eighth overall in April. A lot can go sideways, including risk of eventually being usurped by Penix and his cannon arm. Cousins will need elite volume to have value in single-QB leagues, as he doesn't provide any rushing stats and isn't quite a top passer.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

Browns remain best fit
Cousins could be an affordable short-term solution to Cleveland's quarterback issues, Albert Breer of SI.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The Falcons are expected to release Cousins, which means any other team would have to pay only the league minimum for the services of the 36-year-old QB. That may be about all the Browns can afford, given that they are still stuck with Deshaun Watson's bloated contract even though he'll likely miss the entire 2025 campaign after a second surgery on his Achilles tendon. Cousins will have to demonstrate he's healthy himself, and capable of rebounding from a poor 2024, before he'll be considered a viable starter by any NFL club.
