2020 Fantasy Outlook
Despite a productive career at Arizona State, Benjamin tumbled to the seventh round of this year's draft, in part due to a herky-jerky running style more reminiscent of a boxer bobbling and weaving to avoid jabs - or maybe Jackie Chan's fighting style from his classic "Drunken Master" series - than a football player trying to avoid tackles. It was mostly effective in college, though he posted better numbers in 2018 than in 2019. Benjamin offers more than just unpredictable elusiveness, though. At 5-9, 207, he has the balance and power to finish plays with positive yards even after being caught, and the receiving ability to be a three-down option in the NFL if he ever figures out the rushing aspect. Coach Kliff Kingsbury's spread-out offense should be a good fit for Benjamin, and if Kenyan Drake doesn't hold up as the starter for the Cardinals, the rookie could split work with Chase Edmonds. Needs to improve on special teams
Coach Kliff Kingsbury said Wednesday that Benjamin has recently been a healthy scratch due to his lack of ability to contribute on special teams, Kent Somers of The Arizona Republic reports.
ANALYSIS
Kingsbury specified that Arizona's third running back needs to be able to play on special teams, which is why D.J. Foster and Jonathan Ward backed up Chase Edmonds last weekend. Benjamin has yet to be made active for a game this season, and Kenyan Drake (ankle) now appears to be nearing a return, so his window of opportunity could be closing.
