2025 Fantasy Outlook
Gardner's 2024 totals in passes defensed (nine) and tackles (49) were both career lows, down from his averages of 15.5 passes defensed and 66 tackles from 2022 and 2023, when he became the first cornerback in NFL history to be named first-team All-Pro in his first two seasons. His coverage skills are second to none, but the two biggest knocks on Gardner are a lack of interceptions and pedestrian tackling. Even if he regains his All-Pro form under former Jets CB Aaron Glenn, a lack of passes Gardner's way from opposing QBs likely won't give him many chances to add to his career total of three interceptions. Headed to Indianapolis
The Colts acquired Gardner (concussion) from the Jets on Tuesday in exchange for receiver Adonai Mitchell and 2026 and 2027 first-round draft picks, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
The 1-7 Jets were one of the teams expected to be active around the trade deadline in the midst of a non-contending season, but dealing away the two-time All-Pro cornerback -- who is under contract through 2030 -- wasn't believed to be on the table. The addition of Gardner gives a massive facelift to a secondary that been one of the few weak spots for a surprise 7-2 Colts squad that now looks to be a formidable contender in the AFC. Gardner had missed the Jets' Week 8 win over the Bengals due to a concussion before the team went on bye Week 9, but he could clear the five-step protocol in the coming days to make his Colts debut this Sunday versus Atlanta.

Gardner has already established himself as arguably the best cornerback in the NFL, posting consecutive first team All-Pro seasons in his first two campaigns after being drafted fourth overall by the Jets in 2022. The Jets secondary is likely to remain elite with Gardner leading the way, but unfortunately for fantasy purposes, quarterbacks know Sauce's elite reputation and rarely test him. Gardner has only two career interceptions and dipped to 11 passes defensed in 2023 after leading the league with 20 as a rookie.

ANALYSIS
Gardner has been flagged for pass interference in consecutive weeks and voiced his frustration following Monday's loss to the Dolphins. Coach Aaron Glenn gave Gardner tepid support when asked about his corner's comments, saying some calls didn't go the team's way and that he was seeking clarification from the league. Gardner leads the Jets with four total penalties this season, three of which have been accepted.
