Undergoes surgery, placed on IR
The Eagles placed Okwuegbunam (abdomen) on injured reserve and designated him to return Tuesday, Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
Okwuegbunam underwent a core muscle repair procedure, and he is projected to be out for 6-to-8 weeks. With the Eagles scheduled to have their bye in Week 5, the 2020 fourth-round tight end could aim to return to action for Week 6 against the Browns on Oct. 13. McLane notes that Philadelphia has released E.J. Jenkins, meaning Dallas Goedert and Grant Calcaterra are the only two active tight ends on the roster for the time being.

Okwuegbunam's 2022 season was a major disappointment, as the 2020 fourth-rounder finished with 10 catches for 95 yards and one touchdown while playing in only eight games. The 25-year-old had high expectations after Noah Fant's departure last offseason, but he was unable to take advantage of his impressive athleticism with limited opportunities. Okwuegbunam profiles as the No. 2 tight end behind Greg Dulcich, but his spot as the primary backup could be in danger. This offseason, the Broncos signed Adam Trautman, reuniting him with Denver's new head coach Sean Payton, whom he played under in New Orleans.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Generating trade interest
Aaron Wilson of Pro Football Network reports that other teams have expressed interest in trading for Okwuegbunam.
ANALYSIS
Okwuegbunam's a logical trade candidate for the Broncos, as he entered the season as the team's projected starter at tight end but found himself on the sidelines as a healthy scratch in Week 6 while rookie tight end Greg Dulcich caught a touchdown in his NFL debut. Now that external interest in Albert O has been confirmed, it wouldn't be surprising if a trade materializes before the Nov. 1 deadline.
