The Chargers released Linsley on Wednesday, and he plans to retire from the NFL with a non-emergent heart issue, Kris Rhim of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The decision comes as no surprise, as Linsley said in January that he was "99 percent" sure that he would end his career after missing the final 14 games of the Chargers' 2023 campaign with the heart issue. The 32-year-old was selected in the fifth round of the 2014 NFL Draft by the Packers and played seven seasons in Green Bay before signing with the Chargers in 2021. Across Linsley's 10-year NFL career, he started all 132 games in which he appeared and earned All-Pro honors in both 2020 and 2021.

Linsley played in just 14 games last year, missing time due to a knee injury, concussion and a bad bout of food poisoning. Given the knee injury occurred in the first month of the 2022 season, it's fair to assume the veteran center never fully recovered and as a result, he was unable to match his Pro-Bowl level from the previous two campaigns. Provided everyone is healthy, Linsley anchors what figures to be an underrated top-tier offensive line led by two first-round picks, left tackle Rashawn Slater and guard Zion Johnson.
