2024 Fantasy Outlook
Washington was a third-round selection in the 2023 NFL Draft due primarily to his blocking ability, but the Steelers were expecting more from the tight end out of Georgia as a pass catcher, especially since Washington had an opportunity to step up while starting TE Pat Freiermuth missed five games due to a hamstring injury. Washington played almost half of Pittsburgh’s offensive snaps as a rookie and didn’t miss a game, but he also finished with just seven catches for 61 yards on 10 targets. Even with some improvement likely to come as the 6-foot-7 Washington acclimates to the NFL in his second season, it’s hard to find much upside here considering it took him a season to reach a level of production many tight ends can deliver in a single game. Minimal production in win
Washington secured his lone target for five yards during Sunday's 18-10 win over the Falcons.
ANALYSIS
Although Washington was on the field for 54 percent of the Steelers' offensive snaps Sunday, he didn't see much work in the passing game. Despite appearing in all 17 games during his rookie season in 2023, he didn't have more than one reception in any outing and could struggle to see many targets once again this year, especially if starting tight end Pat Freiermuth stays healthy.

2023 Fantasy Outlook
Washington had a somewhat underwhelming collegiate stat line over three seasons at Georgia, totaling 45 receptions for 774 yards and three touchdowns. However, he impressed at the combine through his speed and agility and was selected by Pittsburgh in the third round of this year's draft. Washington reportedly slid to the third round due to concerns over medicals, and it's unclear how that will impact his rookie season. Pat Freiermuth is the team's clear top tight end, but once Washington is healthy, he could challenge Zach Gentry as the primary backup.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Standing out as pass catcher
Washington, who saw just 10 targets across 17 regular-season games as a rookie in 2023, has been utilized consistently in the passing game during his first few training camp practices, Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The Steelers have a new offensive coordinator in Arthur Smith this season, and he appears to view the athletic Washington, who averaged an impressive 17.3 yards per grab on his 44 college receptions at Georgia, as a viable weapon in the air attack. Pryor notes Smith has been a proponent of two-tight-end sets in past coaching stops, and Washington has been an early beneficiary, including on a touchdown grab in conjunction with Justin Fields during Thursday's practice.
