2025 Fantasy Outlook
Oliver played 14 regular-season games in 2024 but finished the year with just 29 tackles (14.0 solo), including 3.0 sacks, plus three forced fumbles - a notable step down after he tallied 51 tackles, including 9.5 sacks, in 16 regular-season contests back in 2023. DaQuan Jones also regressed in 2024, leaving Buffalo's interior pass rush lacking. Oliver remains locked into a key starting role for Buffalo heading into his age-28 season, with two years remaining on his contract, but expectations for his production should be tempered. Oliver (foot) won't play Sunday against the Jets, Bills coach Sean McDermott said Friday, Maddy Glab of the Bills' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
McDermott added that Oliver got stepped on in practice Wednesday. Oliver was subsequently seen wearing a walking boot in the locker room Thursday. The defensive tackle will need to recover quickly to avoid missing additional action, as the Bills will have a quick turnaround before hosting the Dolphins on Thursday in Week 3.

2019
Oliver's fifth year in the league was easily his best, as the 2019 first-rounder set career highs for tackles (51), sacks (9.5), and tackles for loss (14). Looking ahead, the 26-year-old Oliver and fellow interior lineman DaQuan Jones will continue to lead one of the stronger units on the Bills, and if your league forces you to have a spot for both defensive ends and tackles, Oliver is one of the league's better IDP choices for the latter slot.
This will be Oliver's fifth season in Buffalo after being selected in the first round of the 2019 NFL draft. He's coming off a mediocre season where he had 2.5 sacks and 34 tackles, but those came in just 13 games.
If motor were the only metric in question, Oliver would be a high-ranking IDP option. His IDP utility has lagged to this point, though, both due to low snap counts and meager tackle production. If Oliver takes a step forward in 2021 it will probably be thanks to his pass-rushing potential, where he may yet turn into a double-digit sack threat. The Bills should face a lot of pass attempts as teams try to keep up with the Josh Allen-led offense, and Oliver’s explosiveness (4.73 40, 36-inch vertical) makes him dangerous in that phase of the game.
Oliver was the ninth overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. Like many rookie first-rounders, he was inconsistent but showed flashes of brilliance. On Thanksgiving Day in Dallas, Oliver sacked Dak Prescott twice and forced a fumble that the Bills recovered. Five sacks and 43 tackles is something for the big man to build upon in year two, though he could be starting the season with a suspension following a recent arrest on charges of driving while intoxicated and unlawfully carrying a weapon.
Oliver, who looks like a draft-day steal after the Bills snagged him ninth overall this past April, isn't a towering defensive line presence at just 6-foot-2, 287 pounds, but he's an exceptional athlete who was extremely productive in college. As a rookie, Oliver will look to win a starting defensive tackle job right away. Star Lotulelei is the plugger on the Buffalo line, while Oliver is expected to beat out Harrison and Jordan Phillips to earn the majority of the time as the other starter.

Room for improvement in game sense
DTBuffalo Bills
June 25, 2023
Defensive line coach Eric Washington believes Oliver has yet to play up to his potential, according to Ryan O'Halloran of The Buffalo News.
ANALYSIS
Washington would like to see Oliver improve in the mental aspects of the game and start playing from ahead. Better pre-game preparation and film study could help Buffalo's 2019 first-round pick take a step forward, though Oliver has already done enough to earn a four-year, $68 million extension earlier this offseason despite posting a career-low 2.5 sacks in 2022.
