Ward's had two injury-marred seasons since joining Houston in 2023, limited to 10 games in each year. When healthy, he's had an impact, like a pick-six in Week 12 of 2024. Ward battled a groin injury and concussion before a foot injury took him out in December. He was up and running this summer but did not participate in OTAs. The 33-year-old can play safety or nickel cornerback and is considered a leader on the field. Read Past Outlooks

            Moved to reserve/PUP list
The NFL removed Ward (foot) from the Commissioner Exempt List on Monday, and the Texans moved him to the reserve/PUP list in a corresponding move, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
				ANALYSIS
Ward was placed on the Commissioner Exempt List in late August as part of an investigation into his arrest in mid-June on third-degree felony domestic violence charges. Ward is still under investigation, but his move off the list to PUP means he will be able to participate in team activities once he has been cleared to return from a foot injury that he suffered in late December of 2024.

How do Jimmie Ward's measurables compare to other safeties?

This section compares his draft workout metrics with players at the same position. The bar represents the player's percentile rank. For example, if the bar is halfway across, then the player falls into the 50th percentile for that metric and it would be considered average.

Ward was limited to 10 games (during which he logged 50 tackles) because of a slew of injuries that nagged him all season. When he wasn't hurt, Ward played well, but he'll be 33-years-old to start the season. If healthy, Ward will start at in the secondary along with returning starters Jalen Pitre (safety) and Derek Stingley (cornerback).

    Could follow coach to Houston
Ward might end up signing with the Texans after former 49ers defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans was hired to be Houston's new head coach, Matt Barrows of The Athletic speculates.
				ANALYSIS
The Texans have an opening at safety next to 2022 second-round pick Jalen Pitre, and Ward will be an unrestricted free agent after the Super Bowl. The 31-year-old has spent his entire career in San Francisco, but his role dwindled this season due to the emergence of Talanoa Hufanga, and following Ryans to Houston to fill a starting role and help mentor the rest of the team's secondary could be appealing.
