2022 Fantasy Outlook
Evans reunites with coach Arthur Smith and defensive coordinator Dean Pees after inking a one-year deal with Atlanta this offseason. The 2018 first-round pick's best season came with the Titans in 2019 - Pees and Smith's final campaign in Tennessee - when he recorded career highs in tackles (111) and sacks (2.5) across 16 appearances. Evans was limited to just 12 games last season due to an ankle injury and finished with 57 tackles, his fewest since his rookie year. The 26-year-old can be a beneficial addition to a linebacker group that's looking to replace Foye Oluokun, who led the NFL in tackles in 2021. Read Past Outlooks

Career-high 160 tackles in 2022

January 13, 2023
Evans recorded 160 tackles (86 solo), four pass defenses, two sacks, two fumble recoveries and one forced fumble across 17 appearances during the 2022 campaign.
ANALYSIS
Evans appeared in all 17 games and posted a career-high 160 tackles during his first season with Atlanta. He had a stretch from Weeks 3 through 15 during which he recorded at least 10 tackles in 10 of 12 games, including a 15-stop performance against Pittsburgh in Week 13. Evans' contract was for only one season, so he'll likely test free agency after his stellar campaign, though a return to Atlanta could be in the cards if the Falcons are willing to offer the 2018 first-round pick a multi-year deal.

The Titans clearly like Evans a lot - they selected him 22nd overall in the 2018 draft - so it seems like he should be locked into a three-down role for the foreseeable future. He made an impact in run defense in his second year, helping the Titans hold opposing runners to just under 4.0 yards per carry, but he also played quite a bit of snaps on the edge of the line rather than off the ball, and it's more difficult to make tackles from that position. Evans' tackle upside might therefore be capped around the 111 tackles he made on 966 snaps last year. The main concern with Evans is the fact that he's been bad in coverage to this point, which is not what you want to see from an undersized linebacker.
Despite playing in a star-studded Alabama defense, Evans routinely made his presence felt during the 2017 season as a sideline-to-sideline linebacker with the speed to make plays all over the field. The Titans were so impressed with the 21-year-old that they traded up in the first round to grab him with the 22nd overall pick in this year's draft. Such a vote of confidence suggests Evans should instantly slot into the starting lineup alongside Wesley Woodyard, which could lead him to fantasy relevance right off the bat. However, expectations should be tempered for the time being as the talent around him seemingly diminishes his upside in the tackle column. Since he's also unlikely to rack up the sacks given his position at inside linebacker, it's best to take a wait-and-see approach with the rookie in IDP circles.
