Simpson was expected to take over for the departed Patrick Queen in 2024 but his role faded drastically in the latter part of the season. He played every snap in five of the first 11 games and never played fewer than 30 snaps in any of those games. From Week 12 onward, Simpson never played more than 28 snaps in a game and there were three instances in the final five games in which he didn't play a defensive snap. The team still believes Simpson can figure it out after being given such a drastic uptick in work in 2024, given that it let vets like Malik Harrison and Chris Board walk in free agency. Still, it'll be on Simpson to raise his level of play and stick in his role alongside Roquan Smith. Read Past Outlooks

Reverts to reserve role Week 8
Simpson played 22 snaps (10 on defense, 12 on special teams) without showing up on the box score otherwise during the Ravens' 30-16 win over the Bears on Sunday.
				ANALYSIS
Simpson started at inside linebacker in Weeks 5 and 6 and accumulated 19 total tackles, including 1.5 sacks, over that span. However, the 2023 third-rounder returned to a reserve role on defense and as a special-teams contributor in Week 8 due to the return of Roquan Smith. Simpson could return to a starting role against the Dolphins on Thursday if Teddye Buchanan is not cleared to play due to a calf injury.

Opportunity knocks for Simpson following Patrick Queen's departure in free agency. A 2023 third-round draft pick, Simpson only played double-digit defensive snaps once as a rookie and that was in Week 18 when Baltimore rested its starters. He showed flashes in that game with seven tackles and a sack, but one game isn't an indicative sample. Simpson will have big shoes to fill in light of Queen's departure, but Roquan Smith's presence helped free up Queen to put up career-best numbers, and Baltimore hopes that the same can be true in Simpson's case.

    Set to fill Queen's shoes
Simpson is poised for a breakout season in 2024 as Patrick Queen's replacement at linebacker, per Bradley Locker of Pro Football Focus.
				ANALYSIS
Simpson logged only 49 defensive snaps as a rookie while backing up Queen, who logged 133 tackles and made the Pro Bowl before signing with Pittsburgh in the offseason. Simpson looked effective in his limited opportunities, and Baltimore's 2023 third-round draft pick will now get an opportunity to play a larger role, as Simpson is expected to start following Queen's departure.
