FanDuel NHL: Thursday Targets

This article is part of our FanDuel NHL series.

SLATE PREVIEW

The Islanders stayed alive Tuesday night in a double-overtime thriller against the Lightning, as Jordan Eberle potted the winning goal off a pass from Anders Lee. This was a goaltending battle, though, and with two studs in the blue paint, Game 6 has the potential to follow the same course. FanDuel Sportsbook deemed the Lightning (-165) as the favorite and projects a low-scoring game (5.5 O/U).

GOALIES

FanDuel doesn't allow goalies in one-game slates, but it's a good idea to review who will be stopping pucks for their respective teams. Head coach Barry Trotz stuck with a slumping Semyon Varlamov, and it paid dividends, as he stopped 36 of 37 shots in Game 5 while Andrei Vasilevskiy denied 24 of 26.

VALUE PLAYS/ONE-OFFS

Brock Nelson, NYI vs. TB ($12,500): Nelson flies under the radar a bit but has been impressive this postseason. He's notched three points over the last three games, firing five shots on net and recording six blocked shots as well. His salary's high, but selecting underrated producers is key for DFS.

Yanni Gourde, TB vs. NYI ($9,000): The Islanders' penalty kill has been suspect during the playoffs, and it carried into the Eastern Conference Final. While Gourde plays on the third line at even strength, he centers the top power-play unit alongside the likes of Nikita Kucherov ($15,500). Gourde has been productive enough with four of five points this series coming at even strength, and if he converts on the PP, he'll be a superior value Thursday.

LINE STACKS

New York Islanders vs. Tampa Bay Lightning

C - Mathew Barzal ($14,500)
W - Cal Clutterbuck ($6,500)
W - Anders Lee ($13,500)

Rolling with the underdog can pay off as a contrarian play in DFS tournaments, and this unit is especially interesting now that Clutterbuck's a part of it. Clutterbuck never played more than 20 minutes in a game during the regular season, but he logged 20:44 on Tuesday and dished out 10 hits. His physicality won't reward fantasy gamers, but his upside lies with being on a line with Barzal and Lee. While the duo hasn't capitalized as much as we'd like, they're two of the best players on the team and have combined for 5.61 xGF/60 this postseason, per Natural Stat Trick.

DEFENSEMEN

Victor Hedman, TB vs. NYI ($13,000): Hedman was the lone Lightning player to score on Varlamov in Game 5, and he's now tickled the twine in five of the past seven contests, adding three helpers along the way. He logged a whopping 36 minutes in the double-overtime loss, and he should lead the blue line in minutes again as the team desperately wants to avoid a Game 7. Shoot for the ceiling with Hedman in your lineup.

Ryan Pulock, NYI vs. TB ($9,000): If you seek to add to the Islanders' stack, Pulock is your guy. He operates on the top pairing, and more importantly, he works on the No. 1 power play alongside both Barzal and Lee. He even ranks ahead of Barzal from the blue line with 2.67 xGF/60, and he has a sizable floor with 12 blocked shots and 11 shots on net this series.
