2018 Fantasy Outlook
Montour finished his first full NHL season with nine goals, 32 points (12 on the power play) and 160 shots on goal in 80 games. In turn, the Ducks rewarded Montour with two more years under contract at $3.388 million annually. The 24-year-old's power-play ability is what sets him apart from Josh Manson as the team's top right-handed defenseman, and the Ducks could desperately use an uptick from Manson -- they finished 23rd in the league by converting 17.8 percent of their opportunities with the man advantage. Montour is a value add in deeper leagues and should be on the top of lists if he's still (somehow) available in keeper formats. Read Past Outlooks

May 16, 2019
Montour suffered a sprained MCL during the 2019 IIHF World Championship, Lance Lysowski of The Buffalo News reports.
ANALYSIS
The bad news is he'll need about six weeks to recover and will miss the rest of the tournament. The good is that the injury happened early in the offseason and Montour should be fine once training camp rolls around for the Sabres. Acquired at the trade deadline, he's expected to be a main component of the team's blue line in 2019-20. He was given a key role right away by Buffalo, and his 10 points in 20 games with the Sabres far outpaced his 25 in 62 games for his previous employer in Anaheim.

2017 Fantasy Outlook
With 89 points (25 goals) through 104 AHL games over the past two seasons, Montour's future is bright. He's currently being deployed as a depth defenseman and watches from the press box some nights, which makes this a sneaky time to buy low on the promising youngster. While Montour is likely still a year or two away from being a reliable asset in yearly settings, don't be surprised if he immediately shines once he's handed a larger role.
