2018 Fantasy Outlook
Liljegren's stock plummeted prior to the 2017 NHL Entry Draft due to concerns over his abilities on the defensive end of the ice, resulting in his selection 17th overall. He made the transition to the AHL last season after previously playing in Sweden and had little trouble adjusting, racking up 17 points -- one goal and 16 assists -- over 44 games while posting a plus-12 rating to suggest he's refining his two-way game. The 19-year-old blueliner will be given a look during training camp and could be a candidate to join the Maple Leafs at some point this season or next if his development continues. Read Past Outlooks

Set to play in ECHL

January 16, 2019
Liljegren (ankle) will suit up with ECHL Newfoundland on Wednesday before rejoining AHL Toronto on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Liljegren was injured while playing for Sweden at the 2019 World Junior Championships, but is ready to return to competitive action. In 19 appearances for the Marlies, the blueliner notched two goals, six helpers and six PIM. Given the Maple Leafs' blue-line depth, it's unlikely the 19-year-old will get a shot with the club this season and may have to wait until the 2019-20 campaign to make his NHL debut.
