Ottawa Senators
2019 Fantasy Outlook
As is the case with all of Ottawa's young defensemen, the expectations for Brannstrom's 2019-20 campaign have been muddied by the Senators' offseason additions of Nikita Zaitsev and Ron Hainsey. The 2017 first-round pick clearly has a ton of upside, as evidenced by the seven goals and 32 points he posted in 50 AHL appearances last year, but Ottawa may opt to have him play another season in the minors before giving him a full-time NHL gig in 2020-21. That said, if Brannstrom's able to secure a spot on the big club's Opening Night roster during this year's training camp, he'll be worth an add in all fantasy formats due to his tremendous offensive acumen. Fine after skate to face
DOttawa Senators
October 2, 2019
Brannstrom required a few stitches after taking Auston Matthews' skate to the face at the end of Wednesday's opener against the Sharks but will be fine, Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun reports.
ANALYSIS
Although Brannstrom is still chasing his first career NHL point, he did manage four hits, a shot on goal and two blocked shots on Opening Night. The 2017 first-round pick tallied 28 points (seven goals, 21 assists) over 41 games with AHL Chicago last season and another four assists in nine games with AHL Belleville after he was dealt to the Senators as part of the trade that sent Mark Stone back to the Golden Knights. The 20-year-old appears set for a regular role on the blue line and the power play this season for Ottawa.
