Sam Lafferty
24-Year-Old Right WingRW
2019 Fantasy Outlook
Lafferty saw action in 70 games with AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton last year, notching 13 goals and 36 helpers over that span. Even if the Brown University product puts together a solid showing at training camp, the Penguins will almost certainly send him back to their minor-league affiliate in order to ensure that he gets ice time, rather than watching from the press box inside PPG Paints Arena. If he can continue to improve his game, Lafferty could carve out a role as a penalty-killing specialist with the big club in the future. Read Past Outlooks

Lafferty agreed to terms on a two-year, entry-level contract with Pittsburgh on Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Lafferty just finished up his senior season at Brown University, in which he tallied eight goals and 14 assists in 31 outings. The winger will join AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton for the remainder of the AHL season, with his deal officially kicking in for 2018-19. While the 23-year-old will probably get an invite to training camp, it's unlikely he will make an appearance for the Penguins for a few years -- especially given the wealth of talented young forwards fighting for a shot in the NHL.
