2025 Fantasy Outlook
Jones registered one goal, 11 points, 51 shots on net, 46 blocked shots and 28 hits over 46 appearances with the Rangers in 2024-25. He averaged a career-high 17:15 of ice time per game but had trouble staying in the lineup. As a result, Jones didn’t receive a qualifying offer in the offseason and joined the Sabres on a one-year, two-way contract. Buffalo also brought in Michael Kesselring and Conor Timmins via trades, so Jones will face plenty of competition for playing time in 2025-26 if he claims a roster spot out of training camp. Even if he lands a place on the third pairing at the NHL level, the 24-year-old (25 on Oct. 18) defender is unlikely to be much of a fantasy factor. Read Past Outlooks

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2024
2022
Jones spent the entirety of last season in the NHL, serving as the Rangers' seventh defenseman. As a result, his playing time was extremely limited. He appeared in just 31 regular-season games (two goals, nine points) and none after April 7. The good news is that Jones showed extremely well when in the lineup to the point that New York neglected to sign a replacement for Erik Gustafsson in free agency, all but opening up a full-time roster spot for Jones. There could be some sneaky fantasy value here if Jones is able to secure a role on the club's second power-play unit, but that's far from a given.

Inside track for roster spot?
Jones is viewed as the early favorite to be the Sabres' seventh defenseman, Matthew Fairburn of The Athletic reports Friday.
ANALYSIS
Jones signed a one-year, two-way deal in free agency after not receiving a qualifying offer from the Rangers. The 24-year-old Jones will have a tough time drawing into the lineup on a deep blue line, though he could push Mattias Samuelsson and Conor Timmins for playing time.
