J.J. Aldrich

Decisions Lauren Mueller
October 12, 2019
Aldrich defeated Lauren Mueller via unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Tampa.
Aldrich did what she had to to emerge victorious on the heels of her knockout loss at the hands of Maycee Barber in March, but it wasn't a particularly impressive performance against a very weak opponent. Aldrich started quickly and finished strong, and that was more than enough to defeat the barely-there Mueller. Aldrich is a bit more technically sound than your average flyweight, but her lack of stopping power really limits her long term ceiling. The 27-year-old Colorado native and former Invicta alum improves to 4-2 in the UFC with Saturday's win.

Draws Lauren Mueller in Tampa
August 25, 2019
Aldrich (face) will take on Lauren Mueller in a flyweight matchup at UFC Tampa on Oct. 12, Mari Faiello of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Aldrich took a tough loss to top prospect Maycee Barber in her last fight, getting knocked out in the second round and suffering multiple facial injuries along the way. Prior to that, she had been building momentum with a three-fight winning streak. Mueller could be just the opponent the doctor ordered, as she's lost back-to-back fights and has yet to finish anyone in the UFC. Statistically, major categories like striking offense, striking defense and offensive wrestling all lie in favor of Mueller, even though Aldrich is the more accomplished flyweight fighter. Both women will enter the cage standing at 5-foot-5 with a 67-inch reach.
Medical suspension handed down
March 26, 2019
Alridch has been suspended 180 days by the Tennessee Athletic Commission pending an ophthalmologist's clearance, MMAFighting.com reports.
Aldrich was finished by one of the division's top prospects Saturday in Nashville, marking the first TKO loss of her five-year professional career. She'll need to be examined and cleared of any facial/eye issues before returning to the Octagon -- at least if she wishes to do so prior to September.
Fight goes south after strong start
March 23, 2019
Aldrich lost to Maycee Barber via TKO (knee and punches) at 3:01 of Round 2 at UFC Fight Night 148 in Nashville, Tennessee on Saturday.
Aldrich came out of the gate with the perfect game plan, getting in her opponent's face and exploiting her tendency to hang her chin high after throwing kicks. This led to a knockdown for Aldrich in the first round, but Barber took control in the second frame. By coming forward and using her clinch game, Barber was ultimately able to land a hard shot that resulted in the finish. Aldrich is a solid meat-and-potatoes boxer, which should give her moments of joy in The Octagon but without much power or variety to her game, it's difficult to see her progressing beyond a certain point. She falls to 7-3 in professional MMA as a result of the loss.
Tabbed to fight Barber in Nashville
January 20, 2019
Aldrich will fight against Maycee Barber at UFC Nashville on Mar. 23, MMAFighting.com reports.
Aldrich is coming off her third win in a row in the UFC promotion back in August. Even with the win streak, Barber will be a tough test for the 26-year-old, as "The Future" has yet to lose a professional fight and is widely regarded as one of the top prospects in the circuit.
Disrupts with her clinch work and takes decision UFC 227
August 4, 2018
Aldrich defeated Polyana Viana via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-27) at UFC 227 on Saturday in Los Angeles.
Neither fighter could really get going in this fight. However, Aldrich did a better job of going to her secondary techniques. She did a good job mixing in her clinch work. She did not do very much in the clinch, but it did throw off Viana and forced her to fight going backwards. In the end, Aldrich landed plenty of hard strikes while Viana went back. It was not a very aesthetically pleasing performance, but it was enough to take the decision.
