JJ Aldrich

Easy victory in Vegas
August 28, 2021
Aldrich defeated Vanessa Demopoulos via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) at UFC on ESPN 30 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
Aldrich, who was initially scheduled to face Tracy Cortez, had no difficulties with the opponent change. It was expected that the debuting Demopoulos would represent a much easier fight for Aldrich in her first bout since this past March and that turned out to be exactly the case. Never known as much of a wrestler, Aldrich managed to score a takedown in Round 1 and rack up nearly a full round's worth of control time (4:19) over the course of the fight. Aldrich's ceiling is limited by the lack of power in her hands and the fact she doesn't have a submission win in her career, but the 29-year-old has now won two straight and three of her past four.

Barely gets by Cortney Casey
March 13, 2021
Aldrich defeated Cortney Casey via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
Fighting for the first time in nearly 14 months, Aldrich got lucky that the judges preferred her four takedowns and 5:44 worth of control time to Casey's significant edge in the striking game. Although she emerged victorious here, this fight highlighted some concerns regarding Aldrich's game. She was dominated by Casey on the feet and since she doesn't have a submission win in her career, it's difficult to see where Aldrich's offense is going to come from moving forward. Aldrich was far more intriguing when she joined the company in her early-to-mid 20's back in 2016. She's set to turn 29 years of age this summer and that potential upside she had upon arrival has all but vanished. Aldrich has alternated wins and losses in her past five fights.
