Whitmire was one of five fighters released by the UFC on Sunday, MMAJunkie.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Whitmire got to the UFC as a cast member on Season 26 of "The Ultimate Fighter" and even started her run with back-to-back wins. Since then, she has suffered three consecutive defeats -- all via stoppage within the first two rounds. She's only 30 years old, but considering that her overall professional record is below .500 (4-5), Whitemire will have to rack up some wins on the regional circuits before getting another chance.

September 18, 2021
Whitmire lost to Hannah Goldy via submission (armbar) at 4:17 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
It's a potential career-defining defeat for Whitmire in a fight in which she was dominating. Whitmire scored a pair of successful takedowns in the early part of the bout and racked up 3:04 worth of control time in the brief contest, but she left her arm exposed. Goldy, who entered the evening without a submission victory in her career, grabbed it and started cranking. The loser of three straight fights and sporting a record under .500 (4-5) for her career, Whitmire is unlikely to get another opportunity with the company.

Whitmire (4-4-0) will be looking to rebound in September after dropping her last two fights since getting off to a 2-0 start to her UFC career. Goldy (5-2-0) has also lost her last two bouts, most recently falling to Diana Belbita on July 24 in a unanimous decision.

Whitmire will now face Sam Hughes in a strawweight matchup at UFC Vegas 20 on Feb. 27, MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Whitmire was initially slated to face Hannah Cifers in February before Cifers withdrew with an undisclosed injury. The promotion wasted little time in finding a new opponent for Whitmire, who will look to snap a two-fight losing streak at UFC Vegas 20. She most recently lost to Polyana Viana via submission (armbar) in August. Hughes made her UFC debut on short notice in December, losing to Tecia Torres via TKO (doctor's stoppage) at UFC 256. The two fighters are even in height.
