Out of February fight
February 14, 2021
Whitmire has been forced to withdraw from her fight against Sam Hughes at UFC Vegas 20 on Feb. 27 for undisclosed reasons, Jay Anderson of Cageside Press reports.
The reasoning for Whitmire's withdrawal has not been disclosed as the UFC will have just under two weeks to find a new opponent for Sam Hughes.
Gets new opponent
February 3, 2021
Whitmire will now face Sam Hughes in a strawweight matchup at UFC Vegas 20 on Feb. 27, MMAFighting.com reports.
Whitmire was initially slated to face Hannah Cifers in February before Cifers withdrew with an undisclosed injury. The promotion wasted little time in finding a new opponent for Whitmire, who will look to snap a two-fight losing streak at UFC Vegas 20. She most recently lost to Polyana Viana via submission (armbar) in August. Hughes made her UFC debut on short notice in December, losing to Tecia Torres via TKO (doctor's stoppage) at UFC 256. The two fighters are even in height.
Needs new opponent
February 3, 2021
Whitmire needs a new opponent for Feb. 27 after Hannah Cifers withdrew from the fight with an unspecified injury, MMAJunkie.com reports.
While it's not yet clear what injury Cifers is dealing with, Whitmire will need a new opponent on short notice if she hopes to remain on the card. With just over three weeks remaining prior to the scheduled fight date, it wouldn't be surprising to see Whitmire get a new opponent in time.
Paired against Hannah Cifers
December 22, 2020
Whitmire is set to face Hannah Cifers in a strawweight matchup on Feb. 27, Mike Heck of MMAFighting.com reports.
The matchup pairs two fighters who have been in poor form of late. Whitmire has lost two fights in a row, failing to reach the third round in either contest. That's only half as long as Cifers' losing streak, however, as she's lost four straight, also failing to last until the third round in any of those defeats.
Struggles continue in Vegas
August 29, 2020
Whitmire lost to Polyana Viana via submission (armbar) at 1:53 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
Whitmire has nobody to blame for this one but herself. She was in full control of this fight on the mat following a shockingly easy takedown in the early going, but Whitmire got lazy with her positioning on the ground and allowed Viana to grab a hold of her arm and clamp on the submission that ended the fight. Simply put, it was a fight the 29-year-old Whitmire had to have and she didn't get it. The Oregon native falls to 2-3 with the UFC.
