Istela Nunes

Taps out in UFC debut
October 16, 2021
Nunes lost to Ariane Carnelossi via submission (rear-naked choke) at 2:57 of Round 3 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
Making her UFC debut as a slight (+115) underdog, Nunes fought reasonably well prior to the stoppage. She was the much more effective fighter on the feet, but her poor takedown defense was her ultimate undoing. Nunes allowed Carnelossi to land 5-of-7 takedown attempts, in addition to the rear-naked choke that ended the fight. The 29-year-old Brazilian won't be happy with the end result, but Nunes by no means embarrassed herself in her first showing with the company and we should see her back in the Octagon again in fairly short order.
