Hahamondes has received a six-month medical suspension after suffering a fractured nose and left hand during Saturday's UFC on ABC 2 bout versus John Makdessi, Alexander K. Lee of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
On top of the injuries, Bahamondes came out on the short end of a split decision versus his opposition in his UFC debut after missing weight by a pound and having to forfeit an extra chunk of his purse. Barring clearance from a pair of doctors, he can't schedule a fight for earlier than Oct. 8.

Bahamondes lost to John Makdessi via split decision (27-30, 29-28, 27-30) at UFC on ABC 2 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
It's been a disastrous past day-plus for Bahamondes. He missed weight by less than a pound on Friday morning, forfeited a percentage of his purse to Makdessi for the fight to continue and then went out and lost as a -200 favorite. The toughness of Bahamondes was on full display as he continued to push forward without issue despite getting popped repeatedly by Makdessi. While Bahmondes remained competitive, this fight wasn't as close as the "split decision" term would lead you to believe. Time is firmly on Bahamondes' side considering he won't be turning 24 years of age until late-August, but he has to get his weight cutting under control in order to take the next step in his career.

Bahamondes missed weight by 0.75 pounds at Friday's weigh-in for his UFC debut fight against John Makdessi, Aaron Bronsteter of TSN.ca reports.
ANALYSIS
It's not a good look for Bahamondes to fail to make weight ahead of his promotional debut in the UFC; however, the fight will go on as planned. The 23-year-old is coming off an electric year in which he pulled off one of the best knockouts of 2020 with a front kick against Edson Gomez at Dana White's Contender Series in November. The finisher earned him a UFC contract as he's ready to face Makdessi and make a good first impression. The two fighters are in opposite stages of their careers, as Bahamondes is making his debut while Makdessi has logged 17 fights and has been in the UFC since 2010. Bahamonndes will definitely be tested but is confident that he can put on another show in what will be the biggest fight of his career so far.

Bahamondes will face John Makdessi in a lightweight matchup at a UFC event scheduled for April 10, MMAJunkie.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Bahamondes will make his first appearance under the UFC banner after defeating Edson Gomez via KO (front kick) at Dana White's Contender Series in November to earn a contract with the promotion. Although he fought at the welterweight division earlier in his career, he'll move to the lightweight division for his UFC debut. Makdessi last fought in March of 2020, when he lost to Francisco tvrinaldo via unanimous decision at UFC Brasilia. Bahamondes carries advantages in both height and reach.
Highlight-reel KO earns contract

Bahamondes defeated Edson Gomez via KO (front kick) at 2:31 of Round 2 at Dana White's Contender Series. After the show, he was one of four fighters to be awarded an official UFC contract.
ANALYSIS
Bahamondes entered as the biggest betting favorite of the night at (-380), but didn't necessarily look the part early. Gomez was absolutely game despite missing weight, but the chin and takedown defense of Bahamondes held up. The bad cut for Gomez finally seemed to slow him down as Round 2 wore on, and Bahamondes connected with a beautifully-placed front kick reminiscent of UFC legend Anderson Silva. Gomez was immediately floored and the fight was over, and this will go down as a highlight for years to come. Bahamondes is just 23 years old and appears to be loaded with long-term potential.
