Wins after missing weight
BantamweightUFC
August 28, 2021
Martinez defeated Guido Cannetti via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28) at UFC on ESPN 30 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Martinez, who missed weight by four pounds Friday morning ahead of his UFC debut, started slowly before finding his range. He picked up the pace in Round 2 before dominating the aging Cannetti in Round 3. All told, Martinez landed 2-of-3 takedown attempts in addition to finishing with an 88-68 edge in total strikes landed. It was a middling performance from Martinez, although the bad weight miss is the real concern here. The 25-year-old Houston native displayed a ton of power on the regional scene, so there's some potential upside here.
