Loses UFC debut
FeatherweightUFC
January 15, 2022
Brito lost to Bill Algeo via unanimous decision (27-30, 28-29, 28-29) at UFC on ESPN 32 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
A highly-regarded prospect, Brito earned his UFC opportunity with a win on Dana White's Contender Series this past August. White thought enough of Brito to give him a contract despite the fact he committed multiple infractions in the bout, and the Brazilian rewarded his faith with a unanimous decision defeat in his official debut with the company. In Brito's defense, Algeo is tough as nails and a very tough opponent to prepare for. Brito's best round was the first in which he landed a pair of successful takedowns, but there was little doubt Algeo was the better fighter after the opening five minutes. There will be better days ahead for Brito, and White's faith in him means he will clearly get multiple additional opportunities with the company despite this defeat.

Official debut forthcoming

Brito will take on Bill Algeo in a presumed featherweight matchup at a UFC event scheduled for for early-2022, according to the Dana White's Tuesday Night Contender Series telecast (via Aaron Bronsteter of TSN.ca).
ANALYSIS
Brito is a highly regarded Brazilian prospect -- so highly regarded that UFC President Dana White ignored multiple infractions during his Contender Series appearance and ultimately awarded him a UFC contract. Brito now faces an opponent who could be on his last legs in the UFC after a 1-3 start. Algeo has surrendered an astonishing 20 takedowns over that span, and we at least know wrestling is in the arsenal of Brito, who recorded three takedowns in his DWCS appearance. Brito, however, will be giving up a big height advantage, as well as an inch in reach for his debut.
Earns contract despite multiple infractions
FeatherweightUFC
August 31, 2021
Brito defeated Diego Lopes via technical decision (Round 3, 0:32 for eye poke) (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) at Dana White's Tuesday Night Contender Series. After the show, he was one of five fighters given an official UFC contract.
ANALYSIS
Brito was cruising to a victory early in this fight, but delivered a devastating eye poke just over 30 seconds into Round 3 that forced the doctor to call off the proceedings. Since he was given a warning earlier in the bout, he was deducted a point, but it wasn't enough to lose the fight. With the action getting called off in the third Round, things went to the scorecards (it started 10-10, and Brito was deducted a point, hence the 29-28 score across the board after Brito won the first two rounds). After the fight, Brito still received high praise from UFC President Dana White, who claimed he could be one of the next great Brazilian fighters. It was enough for White to look the other way on the infractions and ultimately reward a contract.
