Scores huge KO for first UFC win
Onama defeated Gabriel Benitez via KO (punches) at 4:24 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Onama picks up a huge knockout victory for his resume, in addition to pocketing 30 percent of Benitez's purse after the latter missed weight by two pounds on Friday morning. He'll also take home a $50,000 bonus as one of four Performance of the Night recipients. Onama deserves full marks for fighting through a difficult situation. He appeared to be done after eating a handful of strikes which damaged his eye midway through Round 1. Benitez pushed forward in search of the finish, but Onama recognized the trouble he was in and limited the distance between the two men on the feet. He was eventually able to recover and end the fight with some ridiculous power shots of his own. Onama needs to work on his secondary skills, but his fight-changing power is legitimate, and this was an excellent effort on the heels of a unanimous decision defeat to Mason Jones in his UFC debut this past October.
