Opens UFC 301 with stoppage win
FlyweightUFC
May 4, 2024
Costa defeated Kevin Borjas via TKO (punches) at 1:35 of Round 2 at UFC 301 on Saturday in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
ANALYSIS
Costa came up short in his most recent fight in November, but he was plenty competitive that evening, and that bout was against Steve Erceg, who is going to fight for a title later in the evening. Led by repeated effective low kicks, the Brazilian eventually dropped his opponent and earned the stoppage in the early portion of Round 2. It would go on to warrant one of four $50,000 Performance of the Night bonuses awarded on the evening. Still just 28 years of age, Costa's 2-2 UFC record is nothing to write home about, but those two defeats are against Erceg and Amir Albazi, arguably two of the top five flyweights in the world. There's still plenty of potential here.

ANALYSIS

Drops decision at UFC 295
FlyweightUFC
November 11, 2023
Costa lost to Steve Erceg via unanimous decision (28-29, 28-29, 28-29) at UFC 295 on Saturday in New York City.
ANALYSIS
Plenty of knowledgeable people are awful high on Erceg, but Costa put up quite a challenge here as a +170 underdog. He simply didn't fire off enough volume on the feet in Round 1 and spent too much of the final frame struggling to create separation, but in between, Costa did plenty of good work in Round 2. He landed a takedown in the stanza and matched Erceg strike for strike. It ultimately wasn't enough, but the Brazilian hung tough against a talented opponent. Costa has shown more ability than his 1-2 mark in his first three UFC bouts would lead you to believe.

Destroys Jimmy Flick
FlyweightUFC
June 17, 2023
Costa defeated Jimmy Flick via TKO (elbows) at 1:03 of Round 2 at UFC on ESPN 47 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Costa was the second-biggest favorite on the card at upwards of -300, and even that turned out to be far too low. He was in control the entire way, firing off countless leg kicks that hampered Flick before damaging him up high. One perfectly-placed strike early in Round 2 forced Flick to the mat, and Costa quickly seized the moment and closed the show with some elbows. The finish would go on to earn him a $50,000 Performance of the Night bonus. The Brazilian was knocked out in a late-notice bout against Amir Albazi last December, so it was nice to see him get right back in the win column. The 27-year-old Costa remains a fighter to keep an eye on at 125 pounds.
