Fades following fast start
Borjas lost to Joshua Van via unanimous decision (28-29, 28-29, 28-29) at UFC 295 on Saturday in New York City.
ANALYSIS
Borjas earned his UFC opportunity with a unanimous decision win on Dana White's Contender Series this past August as a +300 underdog. He checked in as a +200 underdog here against Van in his official company debut and started out on fire before fading significantly. Borjas landed a handful of shots late in Round 1 that were unquestionably the biggest blows of the bout. Yet, his output dipped the rest of the way, and his striking defense deteriorated. There were enough positives here from Borjas, however, to make him a fighter to keep an eye on moving forward.

Awarded contract as steep underdog
Borjas defeated Victor Diaz via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) at Dana White's Tuesday Night Contender Series. After the show, he was one of five fighters to be awarded an official UFC contract.
ANALYSIS
It looked as though the oddsmakers had scouted this one correctly early on, as the (+300) fighter found himself on his back multiple times in Round 1. He never stopped scrambling back to his feet, however, which resulted in the 26-year-old getting the space to land hellacious combinations and body shots. From there, it was just a matter of time before Diaz ran out of steam, which allowed Borjas to take the fight over completely. The one loss on Borjas' record came in the Combate Americas promotion, which may be an indication that he will struggle with a move to tougher competition, but with eight of his nine wins coming via KO/TKO, the Peruvian fighter has shown he will bring action to the flyweight division at the very least.
