Pilate earned his UFC opportunity with a submission win over Vince Morales on Dana White's Contender Series back in July 2018, but he would be now be riding a three-fight losing streak in his first three bouts with the company had his defeat to Journey Newson in February 2020 not been overturned due to the fact Newson tested positive for marijuana. The only real positive on Saturday from Pilarte's perspective was the fact he saw the final bell. He ate 236 total strikes from Kelleher and allowed his opponent to land all three of his takedown attempts. It's going to be difficult for the company to run Pilarte back out there after this performance.
