Blatant foul leads to DQ loss

March 23, 2024
Da Silva lost to Andre Lima via DQ (biting) at 2:52 of Round 2 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Unbelievable. Da Silva's perfect record is gone and his time with the UFC would appear to be on life support after one of the foolish and most blatant fouls you will ever see. Da Silva was doing just fine midway through the bout, at which point he clearly bit Lima in an exchange along the fence. Referee Chris Tognoni took one look at the replay and immediately and correctly pulled the plug. Lima ended up with a massive mark on his arm, only reaffirming Tognoni's decision. It's nearly impossible to believe the UFC will give da Silva another shot after his antics here, and Dana White did confirm after the show that da Silva has been released.

Da SIlva defeated Jhonata Silva via KO/TKO (left hook and ground punches) at 2:37 of Round 2 at Dana White's Tuesday Night Contender Series. After the show, he was one of four fighters to be awarded an official UFC contract.
ANALYSIS
Da Silva's tendency to swing big worked against him early, as he was frequently countered by his opponent in the first frame. Perhaps not sensing any danger from Silva, The Brazilian fighter swarmed in the early stages of Round 2. While his Italian counterpart was able to survive the first barrage, the fight was quickly waived off after he hit the canvas for a second time. Da Silva's power could be a double-edged sword at flyweight, as few of his contemporaries hit as hard, but the wildness he uses to generate that force could get him in trouble as he attempts to rise through the ranks.
