Junior Tafa

The Juggernaut

Australia

Routed in late-notice bout
HeavyweightUFC
February 17, 2024
Tafa lost to Marcos Rogerio de Lima via TKO (strikes) at 1:14 of Round 2 at UFC 298 on Saturday in Anaheim.
ANALYSIS
By now, most everyone knows the story here. Rogerio de Lima was due to face Tafa's brother, Justin, here. Justin withdrew literally yesterday, and Junior agreed to step in. The result, of course, is largely irrelevant given Tafa's willingness to "save" this fight. Junior was simply unable to defend a leg kick from his powerful opponent, and his big limb finally gave out on him early in Round 2. Tafa has a bout scheduled for late-March against Karl Williams, but it remains to be seen if he will be ready to go for that one after the beating he took here from Rogerio de Lima.

Tafa will fight Karl Williams at UFC Vegas 89 on March 23, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.

Huge knockout for first UFC win

Tafa defeated Parker Porter via KO (punch) at 1:24 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Singapore.
ANALYSIS
Tafa made his UFC debut this past April, losing to Mohammed Usman because he couldn't defend a takedown. He got a chance to face a pure brawler here in Porter and responded with a strong effort -- one that would go on to win him a $50,000 Performance of the Night bonus. Tafa has just six pro fights under his belt, but the power is clearly legitimate. It took just a handful of shots to finish Porter in emphatic fashion. It's impossible Tafa will go on any sort of significant run given his inexperience and limited offensive arsenal, but he's certainly capable of putting forth an entertaining performance every time he steps into the Octagon.
Fighting in August

Tafa will face off against Parker Porter at UFC Singapore on August 26, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Tafa will look to bounce back from a loss in his UFC debut against Mohammed Usman back in April. The 26-year-old brings a powerful punch, as does his opponent. The winner of this fight could likely come down to who lands a clean strike on the other first, as both fighters possess a one-dimensional style and do not have much stamina.
Can't defend takedown in debut loss
HeavyweightUFC
April 23, 2023
Tafa lost to Mohammed Usman via unanimous decision (28-29, 28-29, 28-29) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
There wasn't much doubt about this one. Making his UFC debut in his fifth professional fight, Tafa showed off his trademark power, in addition to showing off the massive holes in his game. He damaged Usman enough in Round 1 to win the opening frame, but Tafa spent nearly the entirety of the final two rounds on his back, eliminating any chance he had of winning a decision. These are the type of performances you get from heavyweights with questionable cardio and no secondary means of generating offense.
