Slated to sit out UFC Jacksonville
BantamweightUFC
May 15, 2020
Despite weighing in Friday, Faber revealed on his personal Instagram account that he will not take part in Saturday's UFC Jacksonville card.
ANALYSIS
Faber stepped on the scales Friday morning as an emergency alternate for Yadong Song, who had some questions surrounding his status due to visa issues. With those problems apparently in the rearview, the 41-year-old fighter continues to await his next opportunity to retake the octagon.

Weighs in as alternate
BantamweightUFC
May 15, 2020
Faber made a surprise appearance at UFC Jacksonville weigh-ins on Saturday, hitting the scale at 153.5 pounds as a potential alternate for the event.
ANALYSIS
While there isn't a lightweight fight scheduled for Saturday's card, it seems that one of the featherweight bouts might be in jeopardy. Per Ariel Helwani of ESPN, Yadong Song is currently dealing with some visa issues that the company has yet to iron out. Even though Song already weighed in at 145.5 for his matchup with Marlon Vera, there are still apparently some details to sort out. It's also unclear whether the Florida Boxing Commission would condone this matchup given the eight-pound difference in weights.
Can't pull upset over Petr Yan
BantamweightUFC
December 14, 2019
Faber lost to Petr Yan via KO (head kick) at 0:43 of Round 3 at UFC 245 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Faber should be pretty happy with his performance, all things considered. Entering as by far the biggest underdog on the card at +375, Faber hung around for about half the fight before Yan began to pull away. Sporting a massively swollen eye and on the receiving end of countless power shots from a younger and more gifted opponent, Urijah could have looked for the exit on multiple occasions in this one and declined to do so. While it's obviously not the result he was hoping for, Faber was smart to take this fight. He could have vaulted himself right back into the title conversation with an upset victory and it's not as if the setback is going to impact the future of the 40-year-old Hall of Famer. Faber can still compete as long as the UFC is smarter about who they match him up against moving forward. He can't be thrown in there with legitimate title contenders such as Yan.
Will fight at UFC 245
BantamweightUFC
October 23, 2019
Faber will face Petr Yan in a bantamweight matchup at UFC 245 on Dec. 14, Brett Okamoto of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Faber will make his second appearance in the octagon since December 2016 after ending his retirement and defeating Ricky Simon via KO (punches) at UFC Sacramento in July. Yan carries a 13-1 record as a professional fighter and has a slight height advantage, as well as a high striking volume (5.76 significant strikes landed per minute), while Faber carries a 35-10 record over his career.
Stars in return from long layoff
BantamweightUFC
July 13, 2019
Fighting for the first time since December 2016, Faber defeated Ricky Simon via KO (punches) at 0:46 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Sacramento.
ANALYSIS
Unbelievable. Faber returned from more than 2.5 years on the sideline to -- per ESPN's broadcast -- score the quickest stoppage win of his hall-of-fame career, and his first knockout win since January 2007. That is not a typo. Never known as a power puncher, Faber connected with a looping right hook to effectively finish off Simon. In his post-fight interview with ESPN's Michael Bisping, Faber asked for a shot at Henry Cejudo's UFC Bantamweight Championship. The odds of that happening are somewhere between slim and none, but it doesn't hurt to try. As great as Faber looked on Saturday, odds are high this will go down as the high point of his return to mixed martial arts, and that's fine. Expectations need to be kept in check after this brilliant effort -- which also happened to earn him $50,000 via a Performance of the Night bonus.
Making comeback at UFC Sacramento
BantamweightUFC
May 28, 2019
Faber (34-10-0) will end his retirement and return to the Octagon on July 13 to fight Ricky Simon (15-1-0) in a bantamweight matchup at UFC Sacramento, Dave Meltzer of Wresting Observer Newsletter reports.
ANALYSIS
Though he hasn't fought since December 2016, the UFC Hall of Famer has elected to resume his career for at least one more fight in his hometown of Sacramento. Prior to retiring, the 40-year-old Faber hadn't found much recent success, dropping two of his last three fights, including a loss to Dominick Cruz when a title belt was on the line. Faber has reportedly kept himself in shape since stepping away from the Octagon by competing in grappling, but his lack of recent UFC experience coupled with his advancing age could make it difficult for him to come away with a win over Simon. The 26-year-old will head to Sacramento riding an eight-fight winning streak.
