2026 Fantasy Outlook
The anticipation of the "breakout" has now grown a bit dim and the excitement of his rookie campaign is now growing longer in the rearview mirror. The 23-year-old talent once again was held out of victory lane in 2025 and is still seeking his first-career win. Gibbs also saw his Top 10 total shrink to just 10 last season and his average finish inflate to 17.9. Not good signs for a young driver that's supposed to be improving with each season and not regressing. Gibbs is now standing squarely in the shadows of the other drivers at Joe Gibbs Racing and beginning to look pale in comparison. The young driver will get another season in 2026 to possibly stage that long awaited breakout. Tyler Allen remains his crew chief to start the new season, but we wonder just how long that will hold up. Gibbs has been with three different crew chiefs in his short, three-and-a-half season run. It may not be that the crew chief is the issue. Read Past Outlooks
Fuel Strategy
Gibbs finished third in the Go Bowling at the Glen NASCAR Cup Series race at Watkins Glen International on Sunday afternoon.
ANALYSIS
The driver of the No. 54 Toyota started 10th on the grid and raced in-and-out of the Top 10 early in this road racing battle. Late in the race he would opt not to pit under the final caution and would look to stretch the fuel mileage to the end. Gibbs would lead 17 laps over this stint before Shane van Gisbergen would run him down and pass him for the lead with 7 laps to go. He would slip to third by the checkered flag as he continued to save fuel to the finish.

2022
Gibbs took a little bit to get rolling, but once he got some momentum on his side, he would easily march to Rookie of the Year honors in 2023. The Joe Gibbs Racing youngster would heat up in the second half of last season and earn 10 Top-10 finishes and wind up a respectable 18th-place in the points at the end of last year. Gibbs will now look to continue climbing the ladder and follow the example his teammate, Christopher Bell, has set with driver development at JGR. We believe that's a very good comparison and likely a good predictor of potential performance. Bell posted similar rookie numbers to Gibbs and in year two would earn one win and 16 Top-10 finishes en route to a strong 12th-place showing in the driver standings. Gibbs is quite capable of meeting, if not exceeding those goals. He and crew chief, Chris Gayle, developed some clear chemistry by the end of last season, so we'll see what they can accomplish in 2024.
