What is Football.Fun?

Learn about Football.Fun, a new fantasy platform where you acquire player shares of footballers from the top five European leagues and use them in tournaments.
What is Football.Fun?

Football.Fun is your next favorite fantasy game.

Think of the fantasy sports you already know. Now, remove the season-long resets, add a live player market, throw in the thrill of opening packs, and make sure you can compete without ever setting a lineup. That's Football.Fun.

At its core, Football.Fun is a fantasy sports platform where you acquire player shares of professional footballers from the top five European leagues (English Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga, Ligue 1 and Serie A) and use them to compete in bi-weekly tournaments.

Acquiring those players happens in two ways: by buying shares of specific players from the marketplace, or by opening packs that are won through those bi-weekly tournaments. You own every player share until you decide to sell, which means you can hold players for days, weeks, months or years, allowing you to build your dream squad over time, or flip players quickly if you think their value will drop.

And the best part? You don't even have to set lineups to participate in tournaments. Seriously.

The game loop will feel familiar to regular fantasy players, but Football.Fun has some added twists that make it more, well, fun. (Yeah, I went there).

THE FOOTBALL.FUN BASICS

• Acquire players: You start by buying player shares from the marketplace. Similar to a marketplace, you browse available players, see their current price and decide if you believe they're worth buying.

• Compete in tournaments: Owning shares of a player makes them eligible for Football.Fun's bi-weekly tournaments, as long as they have an active contract. There is no need to set lineups.

• Win rewards: Tournament rewards are based on the number of tournament points your players accumulate, and they are distributed through three types of player packs: Pro, Epic and Legendary. Each pack has four players with a variety of share amounts, and you will see which players and how many shares you won when you open them.

• Accumulate shares or cash out: You own the player shares from your tournament reward packs, which means you can continue to add players to your portfolio or sell them at any time. The strategies are plentiful: sell shares after a player's big performance and demand is up, hold a struggling star that you believe will bounce back, or build a vast portfolio that gives you access to lots of players for future tournaments.

WAIT, I DON'T HAVE TO SET LINEUPS?

That's right, there's no need to set specific lineups. No hours of research trying to predict starters, no lineups ruined because a player is benched last-minute, and no shock scratches because they flew off to their cousin's wedding in another country. You can skip the frustration of seeing your carefully chosen squad derailed by something completely out of your control.

As long as your players have active contracts (we'll get to that in a future article), they are eligible for fantasy tournaments. In order to win tournament points, you simply have to have an active player in your portfolio be one of the five highest-scoring players at their position (or top-three for goalkeepers because there are fewer).

TOP FIVE SEEMS PRETTY HARD, NO?

That brings me to another great feature of Football.Fun: the player pool only consists of the top 200 players in the top five European leagues. (The game will launch with 100 players, with the other 100 arriving by the end of August).

Now, we can all agree there's no universal consensus on who exactly belongs in the top 200 across the Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga, Ligue 1 and Serie A, but we can probably agree that a game built entirely around "stars" is pretty appealing. Sure, some people love digging deep to uncover hidden gems, and there's a mechanism for that, which we'll cover in another future article, but in Football.Fun, even the so-called "bad" players are still among the elite talent in the world's best leagues.

How Football.Fun Differs from Traditional Fantasy Sports

Most fantasy sports have seasonal structures where you start fresh, or reset rosters, every year. But Football.Fun doesn't do that.

Your players stay with you for as long as you want. If you buy shares of some of the youngest stars in the world today, they'll still be in your portfolio when they're competing for Ballon d'Ors.

Football.Fun's real-time marketplace means prices are constantly moving, allowing you to react to injuries, transfers and breakout performances quickly. That means there's a trading element that can be just as strategic as setting lineups (which, again, we don't have to do!).

We can't ignore that the word "fun" is literally in the name of the platform, and one of the core elements of that fun is opening packs. If you've ever opened a pack of sports cards or played FIFA Ultimate Team, you know the rush of pulling something big; Football.Fun taps into that same instinct.

Additionally, there are multiple paths to success. Some players will focus on maximizing their upside in tournaments to win reward packs, while others will be active on the market to churn profits where they see them. And plenty of users will do both! It's up to you to decide your mix, there's no wrong way to play.

HOW TO GET STARTED

Sign up at Football.Fun, which is as simple as using your email address, MetaMask or Coinbase Wallet. Once signed up, you will have access to the marketplace, although to buy shares you must deposit USDC on the Base network (don't worry, there is a simple step-by-step guide for this).

Because the platform is just launching, player share prices haven't fully matured, so we can probably expect some volatility early on. But that's also a key advantage to joining now: we're early. Getting in now gives you time to learn and analyze the market, identify strategies and position yourself before the competition gets tougher.

If you like the concept but aren't ready to jump straight into the pro version of Football.Fun, there's also an incredible free version that nearly mimics the full game. It's a great way to learn the ropes, test strategies and get comfortable with the platform before buying your first player shares.

Football.Fun is not just another fantasy sports site. It's a hybrid of fantasy, sports trading and digital collecting, which means it offers something for any type of fantasy manager: dynasty players can enjoy the continuity of owning assets season after season, DFS players can use their skills to build their asset base through short-term decision-making and volatility, traders can take advantage of their market-analysis skills to buy low and sell high, and collectors can accumulate shares of their favorite players and cheer them on every tournament.

If you're an active fantasy football manager, you're likely already putting in the work to help you become a successful Football.Fun manager. Take those skills and let them help you succeed on your new favorite fantasy sports platform.
