Akinola's release from the club seemed to be inevitable, as after he was pulled from training last week, all signs pointed to the forward being on his way out. It also shouldn't come as much of a surprise following his underwhelming displays over the past couple of seasons despite once being thought of as a highly touted Homegrown player, only seeing 14 appearances last year before being sent out on loan and not earning a single start in his five appearances this season, having zero goals during that span. He will now be in search of a new club, which shouldn't be too much of an issue for the player, as he is still a solid rotation option in most MLS teams.
