Luiz Junior was the backup goalkeeper to Diego Conde in the first half of the 2024/25 campaign, but once he grabbed a starting role following the former's knee injury in December, he closed the season in the XI. He ended up starting in 16 of Villarreal's last 24 games, conceding a mere 18 goals and keeping five clean sheets. It might be an open competition as to who starts the 2025/26 campaign, but based on the body of work last season, Luiz Junior might have the upper hand. If that's the case, he could be a strong choice as your starting goalkeeper once the top-tier options are off the board.
