PLAYER RECOMMENDATIONS

FORWARDS

Sergio Aguero, MCI v. NEW (£27): Manchester City are overwhelming favorites at home against Newcastle, with the oddsmakers giving Aguero a 73.3 percent chance to make his mark on the scoresheet. He has a goal and an assist over his last two outings, and while he came up empty handed when these two sides faced off less than a month ago, he did hammer out four shots and has arguably the highest upside of any player on the slate.

Raheem Sterling, MCI v. NEW (£25): Sterling has a goal in three straight at home, averaging 21 points per game across that stretch. He and Aguero are the biggest threats on this slate, and given the matchup at home against Newcastle I'm likely to try and squeeze both attackers into my lineup.

Danny Welbeck, ARS v. CRY (£19): Welbeck could benefit from the ongoing Alexis Sanchez saga and make his second straight start. He'll look to improve on a one-shot, four-point effort at Bournemouth last weekend with a good bounce back matchup at home against Crystal Palace.

MIDFIELDER

Riyad Mahrez, LEI v. WAT (£24): Mahrez is just three games removed from scoring a goal and notching 14.85 points against Watford on Boxing Day, and he's back at home where he topped 17 points through a goal and an assist in his last outing. Look for the Foxes attack to lean heavily on Mahrez, who has seven goals and seven assists in 22 Premier League appearances this season.

Aaron Ramsey, ARS v. CRY (£17): Ramsey hasn't started a match in over a month but he did return to the pitch for 16 minutes at Bournemouth last weekend. If he's deemed fully fit he stands a good chance to slide back into the starting lineup, and he comes at an attractive price seeing that he's topped double figures in each of his last three starts.

Xherdan Shaqiri, STK v. HUD (£16): It's been eight games since Shaqiri has contributed to a goal or an assist, but given the price and matchup he's back on the fantasy radar. Despite the lack of attacking production, it's encouraging that he's scored at least seven fatnasy points in four of his last six appearances -- taking at least two shots and drawing at least two fouls in each.

DEFENDERS

Nicolas Otamendi, MCI v. NEW (£17): Otamendi scored 13.60 points against Newcastle four games ago and is in a great spot to turn in a repeat performance at home Saturday. He's able to produce fantasy points through his defensive prowess alone, but also possesses strong set-piece upside with four goals already this season.

John Stones, MCI v. NEW (£15): Stones complements Otamendi well and gives us cheaper access to the Manchester City center-back partnership. Even with a lack of clean sheet points he's averaging over 6.75 through two games in January, and in a favorable matchup at home against Newcastle he should continue to provide serviceable production at a reasonable salary.

Hector Bellerin, ARS v. CRY (£15): Bellerin has a goal in back-to-back games, and while we can't count on him for a goal every game, he does give us a little added exposure to the Arsenal attack from a defensive slot. He's gotten off a shot on target in four of his last five outings, scoring over 7.75 points in each.

GOALKEEPER

Ederson, MCI v. NEW (£17): Manchester City haven't kept a clean sheet in four matches but they did hold Newcastle scoreless when they met in late-December. On the heels of their first loss in 22 Premier League games, Ederson is in a nice bounce-back spot to get back on track.
