Skipping early part of season
Personal
December 6, 2021
Andreescu will skip the Australian leg of the 2022 season for personal reasons, she announced on her personal Twitter page Monday.
ANALYSIS
Andreescu noted that she had a difficult year mentally in 2021, citing her grandmother's extended battle with COVID-19 as one of her reasons to take extra time off in her announcement. She intends to rest and reset during the early part of the season and will miss the Australian Open as a result. The Canadian didn't indicate exactly when she intended to return but only mentioned the Australian portion of the season when discussing her time off, so it's possible she returns to action at the start of February.
