Stekelenburg has joined Southampton on loan for the 2015/16 season, Fulham confirmed Monday.

Stekelenburg spent last season on loan at Monaco, but he has a chance to start at Southampton at the beginning of the season, as Fraser Forster is expected to miss most of the term with a knee injury. Paulo Gazzaniga and Kelvin Davis will be his likeliest competition.

Stekelenburg has joined AS Monaco on loan for the 2014-15 season from Fulham.

Stekelenburg joined Fulham last season after a run at Roma, but he was quite disappointing and was unable to get the Cottagers out of relegation. The move to Monaco is a big upgrade, going from the Championship to the Champions League.

Stekelenburg was on the bench for Saturday's 1-0 victory over Newcastle United. He was replaced by David Stockdale and watched as his replacement was able to keep a clean sheet for struggling Fulham.

Stekelenburg has not been much of a fantasy option as he has struggled for the majority of the season. His status for future matches is unknown, but this is certainly not a good sign for Stekelenburg.

Stekelenburg struggled to prevent Chelsea from scoring Saturday, as he allowed three goals in a 3-1 loss.

Stekelenburg has not been a very good fantasy option this season. In the seven starts he has made since the beginning of 2014, he has allowed 15 goals and Fulham have yet to record a victory (two draws, five losses).

Stekelenburg's ability to play Saturday was in question after being forced from Fulham's most recent Premier League match early following a serious collision. He was able to return and made four saves but allowed one goal during Fulham's 1-1 draw with West Bromwich Albion.

Stekelenburg has not met expectations since joining Fulham in August. He has not kept a clean sheet since December and only has two on the season.

Stekelenburg was forced to leave Wednesday's match against Liverpool early after he collided with Luis Suarez. Get West London reports his black eye will be further assessed later on Thursday. Fulham manager, Rene Meulensteen, is confident there was not any serious damage done to Stekelenburg and expects him to be fine for the February 22 match against West Brom.

Stekelenburg has not provided very much fantasy value lately as he has failed to keep a clean sheet in a match since December. He should be fit to play in Fulham's next Premier League match but will still remain a very low-end fantasy option.

Stekelenburg made five saves but allowed two goals after this first hour of play during Tuesday's 2-0 loss to Swansea City.

Stekelenburg has just two clean sheets on the season, with his most recent coming at the beginning of December. With four of Fulham's next five matches coming against teams in the top half of the table, Stekelenburg will have a tough schedule to pick up his third clean sheet any time soon.
