2024 Fantasy Outlook
De Los Santos has been mediocre in 123 games at Double-A (.253/.300/.426) while being extremely young for the level. The power-hitting corner infielder generates impressive exit velocities and hit 20 homers in 113 games last season, but his 0.20 BB/K portends significant struggles at the highest level. His readiness will be tested after Cleveland selected him in the Rule 5 draft and stole him from Arizona, at least for now. If he does not look capable in spring training of providing any value at the big-league level, the Guardians would likely return him to Arizona, but they may be able to find a short-side platoon role for De Los Santos in 2024, and if they keep him on the active roster all season they can send him back to the minors in 2025. In addition to an over-aggressive approach, De Los Santos has been a notoriously poor defender to date, which is partly why Arizona didn't protect him from the Rule 5 draft. He doesn't turn 21 until June and would likely be limited to designated hitter and some first base work if he spends the year on Cleveland's active roster. Read Past Outlooks

De Los Santos cleared waivers Saturday and was returned to the Diamondbacks, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports.
ANALYSIS
De Los Santos was selected by the Guardians during the Rule 5 Draft in December, but he wasn't able to make the team's 26-man Opening Day roster. He'll now return to the Diamondbacks organization, losing his 40-man roster spot in the process. The 20-year-old infielder spent all of last season at Double-A Amarillo, slashing .254/.297/.431 across 481 plate appearances, but he could receive a bump to Triple-A Reno to begin 2024. The Guardians also experimented with giving De Los Santos reps in the corner outfield positions, but it's unclear whether that experiment will continue as he returns to Arizona.

2023 Fantasy Outlook
The pros and cons with De Los Santos are pretty straightforward. Nobody his age can hit the ball harder, and few players his age (doesn't turn 20 until June) have played at Double-A or the Arizona Fall League. On the flip side, he might be on track to be a shorter (6-foot-1) Miguel Sano. Defensively, De Los Santos is limited to being a bad first baseman or a designated hitter. His pitch recognition is poor and ability to make contact is fringe-average. If he is given a pitch to drive, he can hit it a really long way, but pitchers with craft and an ability to command offspeed pitches will eat him up. There's a decent case to be made for cashing him out in dynasty leagues this offseason, as it's very possible he scuffles in a return trip to Double-A and loses most of his value.
