Ryan McKenna

Ryan McKenna

26-Year-Old OutfielderOF
Baltimore Orioles
2023 Fantasy Outlook
McKenna has at least stuck around as a bench bat for the Orioles the last two years, but there's not much to like from a fantasy angle. He's hit just four home runs and stolen three bases in 195 career games, logging a mere 369 plate appearances. His slash line in that span is .209/.293/.302, and there's little reason to think he'll have a major breakout without claiming more playing time. A natural center fielder, McKenna is blocked at that position by Cedric Mullins, while a mix of Austin Hays, Anthony Santander and Kyle Stowers figure to be the preferred corner outfielders for Baltimore in 2023. McKenna has decent speed, but he's simply not utilized enough to challenge for the 15-20 steals that could make him a specialist in fantasy. Read Past Outlooks

Stays with O's
OFBaltimore Orioles
November 17, 2023
McKenna signed a one-year contract with the Orioles on Friday, avoiding arbitration.
ANALYSIS
There had been some thought that McKenna could be a non-tender candidate, but the O's like his ability to play all across the outfield. The 26-year-old will be competing for a bench spot in the spring.

* Exit Velocity and Barrels/PA % are benchmarked against 2019 data (min 400 PA) and Hard Hit Rate is benchmarked against last season's data (min 400 PA). See here for more exit velocity/barrels stats plus an explanation of current limitations with that data set.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2021
2020
This player will receive an outlook for the 2021 fantasy baseball season.
The Double-A wall is real. McKenna has run into that wall since advancing past High-A and his stock has taken a hit as a result. After a blistering run in the Carolina League, McKenna moved up to Bowie in July of 2018. He was not great but at least was able to tread water in his first crack against Double-A arms. McKenna returned to Bowie to begin 2019 and ended up spending the entire year there, and while he was more active on the basepaths and slightly above league average by wRC+ when it was all said and done, he slugged just .365 with a 21.3 K% at that level as a 22-year-old. The batted-ball numbers, namely a 24.2 Hard%, do not portend more power to come. He needs to stick in center field as his bat will not play in the outfield corners. Speed is the only thing keeping him around as a blip on the radar in dynasty formats.
