Alvarado put together a strong sophomore season in 2022-23, logging 21.5 minutes per night, averaging 9.0 points to go with 3.0 assists and 1.1 steals. He exploded for a career-high 38 points in a victory over the Nuggets in early December, a game that could very well end up being the best of his career. As an undersized guard, it is going to be hard for Alvarado to ever be more than a role player off the bench. He does provide the team with plenty of energy, something that is likely to at least keep him on the fringe of the rotation. However, the ascension of Dyson Daniels and the addition of Jordan Hawkins only complicate things for Alvarado. He may have some limited streaming value throughout the season, but as for long-term value, it does not appear likely at this point. Read Past Outlooks

Alvarado logged 10 points (4-7 FG, 2-5 3Pt), two rebounds and seven assists over 25 minutes during Tuesday's 110-106 Play-In Game loss to the Lakers.
ANALYSIS Alvarado closed the game Tuesday, providing the Pelicans with plenty of energy off the bench. He served as the primary ball handler down the stretch, making several key plays, particularly on the offensive end. He did appear to suffer two separate ankle injuries during the second half, something that the medical staff will be monitoring ahead of Friday's must-win matchup against either the Warriors or the Kings.

Absence hurting New Orleans
GNew Orleans Pelicans
April 2, 2024
The Pelicans have posted a 10-4 record with Alvarado since the All-Star break, but the team has limped to a 2-4 record when he has been unavailable over that span. Alvarado is currently amid a three-game absence due to an oblique injury.
ANALYSIS Alvarado's current injury overlaps with an ongoing six-game absence from Brandon Ingram due to a knee injury -- so Alvarado is not the only injury factor affecting New Orleans' play of late. That being said, Alvarado has certainly profiled as an impactful contributor, leading the team with a plus-9.3 net rating during his time on the court across 51 appearances this season.
Alvarado surprised many last season, carving out a consistent role thanks to his tenacity on the defensive end of the court. In just 15.4 minutes per game during his rookie season, Alvarado averaged an impressive 1.3 steals, bumping that number to 1.8 over the final month. Add to that the fact he put up 4.4 assists per game over that same span, and it's fair to say that he will be a key piece for the Pelicans moving forward. Although he is likely to play fewer than 20 minutes per night, he is undoubtedly going to be a viable streaming option at points throughout the season.
