16 Player One-On-One Tournament

Zegers and Meyer wrote a good Give and Go this week where they raise the idea of having a 16-player 1-on-1 tournament instead of the boring-as-hell slam dunk contest.

This struck me as a great idea, and I have a feeling that it would get a bigger audience than the NBA playoffs. You could seed the players:

  1. Kobe Bryant
  2. LeBron James
  3. Dwyane Wade
  4. Tracy McGrady
  5. Vince Carter
  6. Kevin Garnett
  7. Carmelo Anthony
  8. Allen Iverson
  9. Stephon Marbury
  10. Paul Pierce
  11. Ray Allen
  12. Baron Davis
  13. Shawn Marion
  14. Ricky Davis
  15. Manu Ginobili
  16. Tony Parker

I'm sure I'm leaving out some guys (and it's hard to see how the big guys like Duncan or Shaq would be able to get it in from the top of the key, but who knows?). (1) Seeds would be Kobe, LeBron, Wade and McGrady. Would be pretty exciting in my book.
