Thursday Night Observations

Sometimes you're right for the wrong reason, and sometimes your reasons were right, but you got the result wrong. I was wrong about last night's game for the wrong reason.

I thought it would be a defensive struggle, and while I worried the Dolphins offense would get destroyed off the short week, I took the 7.5 points because the Texans offense was also bad. As it turned out, the Dolphins offense was fine, but the Texans destroyed their defense. In fact, it was one of the worst defensive efforts I've ever seen.

• Much has been made about the Texans terrible offensive line but Deshaun Watson had ages to throw and made the most of his 20 attempts, completing 16 of them at a 12.0 YPA clip, five of which went for TDs. He didn't throw a pick, fumble or take a sack, either.

• The strong offensive line play was also evident in the running game as Lamar Miller ran through gaping holes for 18-133-1.

• Will Fuller led the team with a 6-5-124-1 performance, but possibly tore his ACL in the process. If so, he'd be out for the year, and Keke Coutee should have a big role whenever he returns from his hamstring injury.

• DeAndre Hopkins isn't as explosive as Fuller, but he made his usual circus catch (called back for offensive PI), and finished with 7-6-82-2. Tight end Jordan Thomas caught all four of his targets for 29 yards and two scores also.

• Brock Osweiler looked okay. He threw one bad pick, but also dropped some nice passes into DeVante Parker, a couple times while under pressure. He also took two sacks.

• Parker, in his first extended action of the year, proved he was healthy with a 9-6-134 line that included some nice grabs in traffic. He's suddenly the team's No. 1 WR and also reclaimed some value should the Dolphins trade him this week.

• Danny Amendola went 6-5-43 and threw a 28-yard TD to Kenyan Drake. Jakeem Grant went 8-4-36. Along with Parker, Drake was the offensive star, going 12-58-1 on the ground and 2-37-1 through the air.

• Frank Gore rushed for 53 yards on 12 carries and did not look old doing it.
