The Lions and Roughriders meet for the fourth time since the start of the regular season in this playoff clash, after Saskatchewan came away with a 2-1 victory in the series. In fact, B.C.'s only victory came in Week 21, when the Lions recorded a 27-21 win at Mosaic Stadium in which the Riders didn't play their starters for the full game.
Trevor Harris notably enjoyed plenty of success against the Lions' defense, throwing for 395 yards and three touchdowns back in a Week 7, 33-27 win in B.C. and then going a blistering 10-for-11 for 112 yards versus the Lions in his Week 21 tune-up for the postseason.
The veteran signal-caller has had plenty of opportunity to rest his arm after a long season, and the same holds true for the legs of highly versatile backfield mate A.J. Ouellette, who finished the campaign with a career-best 1,222 rushing yards and a co-career-best eight rushing touchdowns while adding a 35-250-1 receiving line.
The Riders were consistently able to keep the pressure on the Lions' defense throughout their three meetings in the regular season, and with a big rest advantage and playing on a home field where they posted a 6-3 mark during the campaign, I see Saskatchewan making good on its status as a solid favorite.
However, the Lions aren't going to go quietly by any stretch, not with MOP odds-on favorite Nathan Rourke leading their offense. Rourke finished with a league-high 5,290 passing yards and 31 pass TDs during the season, along with 564 rushing yards and another 10 scores. He also had success against his playoff opponent, as he lit up the Riders for 337- and 368-yard tallies through the air in the two games he played against them, also mustering a 6:2 TD:INT in that pair of contests.
Rourke's array of weapons includes James Butler, Keon Hatcher, Justin McInnis and Jevon Cottoy, among others. The Riders boast an aggressive, turnover-causing defense, so the path to points won't necessarily be easy, but Rourke's talent should help the Lions contribute their fair share to the total of 52.5 points being exceeded.
