Nearly orchestrates comeback win
QBWake Forest
October 13, 2019
Hartman relieved an injured Jamie Newman (shoulder) in the fourth quarter of Saturday's 62-59 loss to Louisville, completing nine of 15 attempts for 172 yards and two touchdowns while carrying twice for four yards and another score.
ANALYSIS
After losing out on the starting quarterback battle with Newman during August camp, Hartman hadn't logged a single passing attempt in Wake Forest's first five games. Despite the lack of prior work, Hartman was ready to go when called upon Saturday, nearly guiding Wake Forest back from a 17-point deficit. He accounted for all three of the Demon Deacons' touchdowns in the final five minutes of the contest, though the comeback bid ultimately fell short. Wake Forest will wait and see how Newman is feeling over the next few days before assessing whether he's fit to start the team's next game Oct. 19 versus Florida State or if Hartman will be needed to lead the offense.
