Ireland vs. England: One-off ODI Preview

Ireland will be taking on England for a one-off ODI match on Friday at Malahide Cricket Club (The Village) in Dublin. England is set to kick-start their World Cup 2019 preparations with a one-off ODI match against the Irish side before their upcoming home series against Pakistan. It will be England's third visit to Dublin and the visitors are to taste defeat at this venue, but a few important World Cup players are missing from the squad—Jos Buttler, Jonny Bairstow and Ben Stokes—who were given rest after their IPL stint with their respective franchise before World Cup. Jason Roy will also miss out due to a back spasm. Looking at this match Ben Foakes is expected to make his ODI debut as he is the lone wicket-keeper available for the selection. Moreover, James Vince who was included recently also expected to feature for England after the withdrawal of Alex Hales from all England squads for using recreational drugs.

Meanwhile, Ireland is coming in to this match after facing series defeat against Afghanistan in March and will be looking to turn the tides. However, it will be difficult to pull a victory as they won just two out of 13 ODIs which they played since 2013. Ireland will welcome Gary Wilson back to their side after missing series against Afghanistan due to eye condition and will take gloves for this match.

Player Recommendations:

Wicket-Keeper: Ben Foakes (8 credits)

Player Recommendations:

Wicket-Keeper: Ben Foakes (8 credits)

Foakes expected to make his debut for England as there are no options available for England in the wicket-keeper section making his the best option to choose for this match because Gary Wilson's record against England is not up to the mark as he has just an average of 7.00 with the bat. Moreover, Foakes played 71 List A matches and scored 1834 runs at an average of 35.96.

Batsman: Joe Root (11 credits)

Root's record against Ireland has been excellent where he scored 122 runs in just two matches at an average of 122. He is a kind of player who doesn't throw his wicket but gradually builds his inning strong and he's expected to score big against the Irish side. Moreover, England's top-order batsman has an excellent record against the Irish side.

All-Rounder: Joe Denly (8.5 credits)

Since Ben Stokes has been rested for this match after his IPL stint with Rajasthan Royals so, in his absence, Denly is expected to take his all-around place. Nevertheless, Denly played a match against Ireland where he scored 67 runs and he is expected to open the inning with either Ben Foakes or James Vince.

Bowler: Adil Rashid (9 credits)

Rashid is one of the most successful bowlers against Ireland where he picked seven wickets in his four matches at an economy of 5.04 including one five-fer. While looking at the other side Ireland's Tim Murtagh had been excellent with the ball against England where he picked four wickets in three matches at an economy of just 4.46. Both players are important for their respective sides.

Captain: Joe Root

Vice-Captain: Adil Rashid

Predicted Playing XI:

Ireland: William Porterfield (C), Paul Stirling, Gary Wilson (WK), Kevin O'Brien, Andy Balbirnie, James McCollum, George Dockrell, Boyd Rankin, Tim Murtagh, Joshua Little, Barry McCarthy

England: James Vince, Joe Denly, Joe Root, Eoin Morgan (C), Ben Foakes (WK), Dawid Malan, David Willey, Jofra Archer, Adil Rashid, Tom Curran, Liam Plunkett
