West Indies vs. India: First ODI Preview

West Indies and India will face off in the first ODI of the three-match series in Providence on Thursday. Providence Stadium will be used as the venue for the contest which will be hosting its 22nd ODI on Thursday. Highest team score of 309-6 was registered by the home side in the match against Pakistan in 2017 whereas lowest total of 98 was also registered by the home side that too in the match against the Men in Green but in the year 2013. Highest individual score of 130 not out was registered by Bangladesh's Tamim Iqbal in 2018 whereas best bowling figures of 7-12 was registered by Pakistan's Shahid Afridi in 2013.

The home side will be coming in the match low on confidence after suffering a thumping three-nil sweep in the recently concluded T20I series. In the batting department, the Caribbean giants have receive a major boost with the return of veteran opener Chris Gayle who will join wicketkeeper-batsman Shai Hope, young Nicholas Pooran and exciting Shimron Hetmyer to score bulk of the runs whereas on the bowling front, the onus will be on the likes of captain Jason Holder, Carlos Brathwaite, Oshane Thomas and Sheldon Cottrell to produce timely breakthroughs.

Mohammad Shami has become an integral part of India's ODI bowling unit in the recent past. The 28-year-old has represented the Men in Blue in 67 ODIs where he has 127 wickets to his name at a strike-rate of 27.10.
